Yoga

into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul

John Muir

Yoga is for everyone, regardless of your level of fitness or experience. Join us for yoga classes which explore the body, breath and mind and discover how your inner wisdom drives all three. We will guide you through breathwork, movement and meditation which will help you relax and reconnect with yourself and nature around you.

Classes

Vinyasa flow – In these dynamic vinyasa flow classes you will build heat as you move through a physical movement meditation. This practice is inspired by ashtanga and hatha vinyasa and synchronises dynamic movement with breath.Β In these upbeat classes you will link breathwork, movement, mantra and meditation leaving you feeling energised, elated and connected with your inner-self.

Gentle flow – Our gentle flow classes combine movement and stretching postures with the breath. During the session you will release mental and physical stress through a range of yoga poses and guided relaxation. This practice will leave you feeling calm and reinvigorated. All levels are welcome. This is a gentle class with absolutely no requirement to be able to touch your toes!

Pregnancy yoga – Take precious time for yourself and your baby in these pregnancy yoga classes. We will focus on relaxation techniques and gentle movement to encourage comfort and mobility. Practicing yoga throughout pregnancy can help manage anxiety and pre-natal depression, create physical space in the body for a growing baby, release tension in aching muscles and increase strength and stamina which prepares you for birth and early motherhood. These creative flowing classes will include yoga postures and breathwork as well as pelvic floor exercises and affirmations for birth preparation. Weekly classes at Tribe Yoga, Saturday 3pm – 4pm – book here.

About us

Hi, I’m Helen and I have been doing yoga for over twelve years, enjoying the physical and mental benefits that the practice gives me. My yoga journey has evolved over time from a physical one to a deeper connection with the mind and the self.  I was first introduced to yoga as a complementary activity to my running and hill walking. For several years my practice was primarily a physical one and I admit in the first instance I found it frustrating, wondering why I was bothering spending an hour doing an activity which would barely make me sweat!

As I grew into my late 20’s and early 30’s, my regular yoga practice became a bigger part of my life, offering me space to withdraw from the external pressures of life and focus on my unique and personal journey. As someone who has suffered from stress and anxiety, I am grateful for the coping tools that yoga has taught me. My practice has broadened  beyond asana to breathwork (pranayama), mantra chanting and mindful meditation.

I considered taking my yoga teacher training for several years before I finally took the plunge. There was always another project or work event in the way. It was eventually the birth of my son and my experience of practicing yoga during pregnancy that inspired me to train to teach and share my positive experience with others. Motherhood has strengthened me and given me a renewed perspective on life. My own pregnancy and birth experience was positive, in a large part (I believe) because of my yoga practice. I feel enlightened by motherhood and empowered to guide other women throughout their pregnancy, birthing and post-natal journey.

My yoga teacher training has deepened my knowledge of the origins and philosophy of yoga and I believe it has made me a more discerning student and teacher. In 2021 I completed Tribe Academy’s 200+ hours program with the fantastic Madhura Bhagwat. This was a thorough and immersive program covering philosophy and history of yoga, pranayama techniques, asanas (predominantly hatha and vinyasa), mantra chanting, cleansing techniques and meditation.

Following that I trained with Sally Parkes on her 85-hour course which covered Pregnancy, Postnatal and Mother & Baby Yoga. This was a comprehensive program teaching me about anatomy and physiology of pregnancy, in addition to appropriate pranayama, mudra and relaxation techniques for the expectant mother. To assist postnatal recovery, we learned yoga and methods developed from Pilates and gentle exercise rehabilitation.
